UMW SMALL GROUPS
The June Newsletter…… What a perfect time to summarize the year Grace UMW has had… "Stop the Violence" members came and spoke to us, and told of the wonderful work they are doing in the Community, and how as United Methodist Women, we can continue to help this awesome endeavor that they have undertaken…. Our Annual Fall Fair brings in members from the community, we spent many weeks getting ready for the fair, the crafts, the food, the fun. Money raised at the fair helps many missions that we support. Our Christmas Party was changed this year to the Wardhurst in Peabody and we loved it there. Great food, even better friends celebrating the magic of Christmas. I forgot who got number one in the Yankee Swap, but after being in UMW for over thirty years, I think this year may be my year. In January, we started to get ready for our Spring Craft and Vendor Fair, where our first table was rented in February. If you did not come in April, you missed the Fash-ion Show, where the clothes came from Off-the-Ramp Boutique, and the models, well, I am just not sure of where they came from…..We had a very successful Spring Craft and Vendor Fair, many peo-ple came out to support this, and thank you all for all your hard work on the fair. The next day was UMW Sunday. Pastor Crystal Gardner challenged us to get out of the boat and go out into the community to spread God"s Love. Barbara Moore was presented with the Special Mission Recognition Award. Lunch was served during Fellowship Hour.
May we had the clinical manager from Independence House come and speak to us about Independence House. We did not know much about the shelter, except that it was a shelter and the congregation donates Easter Baskets to them. He gave us an overview of who lives there and what services they offer. After he left, Grace UMW voted to give all the moms (31 of them) and one single dad, a gift certificate to Dollar Tree. I was told that when they were delivered, the staff was so excited for their guests to receive these that their eyes lit up… What a great feeling to make someone"s day with just a $10.00 gift card. The residents are so excited for anything we do for them. Metro Boston Hope District UMW held their annual meeting on May 5th at St. Stephens UMC in W. Roxbury, where Grace UMW was one of 5 churches in the district to receive the 5 Star Giving Award. What that means is that Grace UMW contributed to the 5 channels of Mission Giving. Grace UMW continues to support our VBS programs, our Youth Mission Trips, we donated to the Molly Ramsay fund and so much more…..Grace UMW is small in numbers, yet we continue to support our purpose. Imagine what we could do if more women at Grace supported United Methodist Women.
June 12th at 6:30 pm, we will again be heading to The Wardhurst Restaurant for our end of year dinner. Please see Cyndy Rowe or me if you would like to attend. Cost approx. $25, RSVP by 6/10.
Joy Circle will meet on June 19 at 6:30 pm in Fellowship Hall.
